Vista Ventures: Our Investment Philosophy

A good venture capital partner is part management strategist, financial strategist,
headhunter and corporate therapist.

The Entrepreneurial Spirit

As entrepreneurs, we know what it's like to start and build a new company. We have recruited teams, raised capital, negotiated contracts, led product development, managed manufacturing and costing, developed sales and distribution strategies, and built customer-care centers. This experience enables us to assist our portfolio companies through the inevitable challenges that all entrepreneurial companies face.

Chemistry

The Vista team is comprised of individuals who truly have a passion for building leadership companies. We think that entrepreneurs should select their venture partners carefully, and we encourage entrepreneurs to conduct their own due diligence on Vista Ventures. This openness helps ensure that the partnership is built on a foundation of mutual understanding, respect and trust.

Investing with other venture firms

While we often take a lead role in the companies we invest in, we think co-investing with other venture funds is a good idea, even in the early rounds. We have established relationships with other venture funds in Colorado and have worked with many of the principals in these funds on prior investments. We also have strong ties to several out-of-state venture funds that can provide growth capital and key connections. We like to work with other venture funds that share our investment philosophy and approach to building companies.

Working in partnership with entrepreneurs

We believe that smart early stage investing means providing more than just capital. A good venture capital partner is part management strategist, financial strategist, headhunter and corporate therapist. The principals of Vista add value to our portfolio companies by:

  • Leading strategic planning sessions
  • Helping shape business models and business plans
  • Helping identify new technologies to increase competitive advantage
  • Strengthening management teams by recruiting key executives
  • Helping close large contracts or obtain significant customers
  • Identifying and developing strategic partnerships and M&A opportunities
  • Helping prepare management for critical presentations
  • Helping secure both equity and debt financings required for future growth
